Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how The Battle Within Recovery Program, LLC ("The Battle Within," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use The Battle Within Recovery Program mobile application and related services (the "App"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information that you voluntarily provide when you create an account and use the App's features. This may include:
- Account and profile information: your name, email address, role (such as Client or Facilitator), optional profile photo, and language preference.
- Recovery dates and tracker data: the substances you are recovering from, your recovery start dates, and milestone progress you choose to record.
- Daily check-in responses: your mood, craving intensity, stress level, sleep quality, gratitude level, recovery goals, and any optional private notes.
- Journal entries: private reflections you write, including titles, text, mood tags, and dates.
- Workbook and course responses: your answers to workbook exercises, course assignments, 12-step reflections, and reading progress.
- Facilitator interactions: connection requests, sharing preferences, and messages exchanged with facilitators or peers you have voluntarily connected with.
- Wellness activity data: optional fitness/movement logs, nutrition and hydration entries, and related reflections.
- Support contacts: optional personal contacts you add for quick access (such as a sponsor, friend, or family member).
We also automatically collect limited technical data, such as device type, app version, and general usage patterns, to operate, maintain, and improve the App.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalize the recovery tools and features you use, including daily check-ins, journaling, recovery tracking, guided courses, and progress history.
- Maintain your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
- Display your recovery milestones, streaks, and progress over time.
- Enable facilitator-related features, such as sharing selected information with a facilitator you have connected with, when and only to the extent you choose.
- Send optional daily check-in reminders and in-app notifications you have enabled.
- Maintain the security, integrity, and safety of the App and its users.
- Improve, debug, and enhance the App's features and performance.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
Sensitive and Recovery-Related Information
The Battle Within may collect information related to your recovery journey, including substance-use history, recovery dates, cravings, mood, and personal reflections. This information is sensitive in nature. We treat it with care:
- Recovery-related information is stored under your account and is not visible to other users unless you explicitly choose to share it with a connected facilitator.
- Private reflections (such as recovery period personal reasons and archived reflections) are never shared with facilitators.
- You control what, if anything, you share, and you can revoke sharing at any time without losing any of your data.
The Battle Within is an educational and recovery-support tool. It is not a substitute for professional medical, mental-health, substance-use-disorder treatment, diagnosis, or emergency services. If you are in crisis or immediate danger, call 911 or contact a crisis line such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Journal and Check-In Information
Your journal entries and daily check-in responses are private to you by default. They are stored securely and are accessible only to you. You may optionally choose to share your journal entries or check-in history with a facilitator you have connected with, but this sharing is entirely voluntary and can be turned off at any time. Deleting a journal entry or check-in removes it from your account.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We share information only in the limited circumstances described below:
- With facilitators you choose: When you voluntarily connect with a facilitator and grant sharing permission, only the categories of data you select are visible to that facilitator. You can revoke access at any time.
- With peers you connect with: If you use optional peer messaging, messages are exchanged only between you and the connected peer. Message content is private to the participants.
- For safety and moderation: Limited information may be reviewed by authorized administrators to investigate reported safety concerns and maintain community safety.
- Service providers: We use trusted service providers to operate the App (described below). They process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
- Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or others.
Third-Party Services and Service Providers
We use third-party services to operate and maintain the App, including:
- Cloud hosting and data storage providers.
- Authentication services that help you sign in securely.
- Email delivery for account-related communications and optional reminders.
- Analytics services that help us understand aggregate usage and improve the App.
These providers process limited data necessary to perform their functions and are expected to protect it under appropriate agreements. We do not authorize them to use your personal information for their own purposes.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. Data is stored with row-level security policies designed so that only you (and facilitators you have explicitly authorized) can access your records. Authorized administrator accounts have limited access for platform maintenance and safety purposes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data — including recovery records, journal entries, check-ins, workbook and course progress, fitness and nutrition data, contacts, and connections — is permanently removed. Some reported safety content may be temporarily retained when necessary for an active safety report or legal obligation. Removing the App from your device does not delete your account; you must request account deletion as described below.
User Rights and Choices
You have the following rights and choices regarding your information:
- Access and review: You can view your data through the App at any time.
- Modify: You can edit your profile, journal entries, and other content you have created.
- Control sharing: You choose what to share with a facilitator and can revoke access at any time.
- Notifications: You can enable or disable daily reminders and notifications in your settings.
- Delete your data: You can delete individual entries or request full account deletion as described below.
Account and Data Deletion
You can request permanent deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. To do so:
- Open the App and sign in to your account.
- Go to Profile (Settings).
- Scroll to the Delete account section.
- Tap Delete My Account and Data and follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Your recovery records, journal entries, check-ins, workbook and course progress, fitness and nutrition data, recovery plan, contacts, and connections will be deleted. Facilitator and peer connections will end, and messaging access will be removed. If you prefer to disconnect from a facilitator without deleting your account, you can do so from the Sharing & Privacy settings. If you no longer have access to the App, you may also request deletion by contacting us using the information below.
Children's Privacy
The Battle Within is intended for use by adults and is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the information below, and we will take steps to delete that information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
